The 1975 are Still…At Their Very Best

JANUARY 28TH 2024 | PAIGE FULKERSON

“Same time, same place, next year?” was something The 1975 Portland fans did not think they were going to be saying to each other, but it was like clockwork—The 1975 took to their “At Their Very Best” tour exactly one year prior to their tour “Still…At Their Very Best” at Portland, Oregon’s Moda Center.

December 1st of 2022 and 2023 filled the Portland arena to the brim with fans favoriting their newest album “Being Funny in a Foreign Language” and others standing by their first self-titled album that came out in 2009.

Both nights were one of the same, blending in my memory with good friends, nostalgic music and a sense of a family reunion as the band came on one last time on that cold December night knowing that this tour would not be happening for a third year.

Stemming from a Twitter group chat in 2022, myself and about 50 other individuals became a tight knit group of fans and friends. After meeting at the first show at the Moda Center in 2022, we were ecstatic to see each other yet again for another night spent with out with our favorite band. Not only did we all meet again but we made new friends during the 2023 show. The 1975 has brought fans together unlike no other, with these shows, most have made lifelong friends outside of the bands music and that is something truly special about the band, similar to the boys own special relationship.

The same blue “The 1975” curtain dropped as the band came on the same house like stage, including spiral stairs, books, doors, a roof and even a street light. While there were many similarities between the 2022 and 2023 shows, the 2023 setlist included some of the OG fan favorites such as, “Medicine” and “2005 Jesus Christ God Bless America” as well as Matty sported a different look.

Many fans are keen on Matty Healy’s differing looks. During the 2022 show, Matty wore his natural curly hair grown out and a fresh shaven face. In 2023 Healy rocked a shorter cut, glasses and a mustache (liked by most, hated by some).

The two annual shows were a magical experience and us North America 1975 fans will definitely be missing a piece of our hearts on December 1st in 2024.
